Mekhla Basu, Director and Corporate Counsel for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region at the US-headquartered software firm Splunk Inc is set to join the world’s largest manufacturer of vertical transportation systems, OTIS as Senior Director and Head of Ethics and Legal Compliance for Asia Pacific Region.
“Basu will be responsible for guiding the US-manufacturing and engineering major for ethics and compliance culture across the entire Asia-Pacific region that includes 25 countries,” said a person familiar with the development. “She will be based out in the company’s Singapore office,” the person further added.
An alumnus of ILS Law College from Pune from the 2005 batch, Basu had started her career in private practice with a few large law firms.
In the year 2008, she moved in-house and joined the country’s largest pure-play consumer company Hindustan Unilever. Subsequently, Basu has held various leadership roles as General Counsel and Ethics and Compliance head in companies like GE, IBM and Intel for both India and the Greater Asia region.
“Basu’s knowledge and expertise in regulatory requirements, corporate governance, antitrust, IP, IT, privacy & data security, labour & employment, FCPA, anti-bribery and other laws applicable to multinational companies made her a fitting choice for the role,” said a person quoted above.

For most companies, compliance is increasingly becoming a high priority, and they are looking to integrate compliance into business operations and instil a culture of compliance.
“Companies are increasingly looking at seasoned compliance candidates to build a solid organizational ethics and compliance program, which is a high priority in any organization, especially in listed ones,” adds Fernandes.
