WEGoT Utility Solutions looks beyond residential buildings for smart water management

Smart water management solutions provider, WEGoT Utility Solutions has expanded its focus from residential buildings to much larger projects in the last two years as the company has been able to scale up their products and services.

The company is also building bigger devices and owing to their deployment in more buildings, they have been receiving a lot of inbound inquiries for commercial office buildings and industries, Abilash Haridass, Co-founder – Strategy and Growth at WEGoT said.

“Our solution has gone beyond just doing buildings, or just doing inlets for homes,” he explained. “This product is scaled to do much larger campuses, even citywide deployments if necessary. And for this, we’ve built out bigger sizes. From an application perspective also, it’s gone from just giving you real time information to managing every micro application of water. We’re able to give you very accurate and detailed tanker and lorry management for instance, which is a pain point in all buildings that buy water. We built a water balance too. We’ve made a separate dashboard for commercial buildings based on their understanding. We help you manage your borewells, turn on and turn off your pumps and motors based on conditions you set.”

On the hardware side, the company said that their new wireless solution will be a ‘game changer’ as it allows them to deliver faster and more efficiently.

“We only had a wired solution two years ago but today, we have also built a wireless sensor,” said Haridass. “And this is important because it makes us deliver faster. This wireless sensor is going to be a game changer for us. Just in terms of delivery, we were able to do 15 sensors with a wired model but today we are able to do about 40 sensors. So that’s the speed at which we’re going to be able to deploy.”

Vijay Krishna, Co-founder and CTO said the company handles data from various sources, the primary one being a sensor. Interestingly, he mentioned that WEGoT gathers about 13 million data points in a day.

“We can’t have systems that have to be scaled every two or three months,” he said. “We don’t really worry about how many sensors we put out there, we just know that the systems will scale themselves. So we went in for a serverless architecture to handle the ingestion. And then once we ingest the data, what we do with it is where our business logic and the data lakes come into play.”

Krishna said the ‘secret sauce’ lay in the high ingestion systems that don’t require manning, the sophisticated data lakes system that takes data and then put it in any form or shape that the customer needs and finally having the delivery mechanism that AWS provides through the emails, SMSes and direct third party integrations.

Further, one of the fundamental changes that has taken place in the company, he said, was the consolidation of the backend IT services.

“We were running on bits and pieces on different clouds. And then in 2020, we consolidated and moved across into AWS as our single standalone partner,” he said. “The amount of services that they have helps us to orchestrate any workflows that we want. Right from integrating our sensors to making meaningful data, and then all the way towards doing water predictions.”

Working with AWS, WEGoT introduced WEGoT Aqua, which uses cloud-based sensors in residential as well as commercial properties to help tenants regulate water flow, detect leaks by monitoring the usage in real time and send alerts of water wastage to the users accordingly. As of now, WEGoT has over 50,000 sensors and claims to have saved 3 billion litres of water in the last one year. Their customers include residentials like the Embassy group, Prestige Group, Brigade, Puravankara and companies like

and . WEGoT is also looking to expand its footprint in the electricity and gas space in India with AWS with their products like WEGoT Volt and WEGoT Erika.
